Der Klosterladen - Speciality Food Shop at the Wernberg Convent
Centuries Old Knowledge
The shop of the Wernberg Convent, an international and multicultural congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood, stands for high quality food from their own farm, which includes a large herb garden, the production of milk products and baked goods from their own bakery.
Products from other farms throughout the region are also for sale there. In addition, they have homemade pastries available daily beginning at 12:30 p.m., and through cooperation with other European convents they are also able to offer small presents and souvenirs.
What They Have
- Milk products from their own farm (raw milk, whey fruit drinks, plain and fruit yogurt, curd cheese, fresh cheese, spreads, farmer’s butter, and Glundner cheese)
- Eggs and potatoes from the convent’s farm
- Grains and grain products
- Pasta products with and without eggs
- Bread from their own bakery (whole grain, flaxseed bread, spelt bread, hemp bread, Waldstauden rye bread...) and both sweet and salty small baked goods
- Various herbal salts from the convent’s garden
- Soup add-ins, such as semolina dumplings (Grießnockerl), Frittaten, liver dumplings (Leberknödel), etc.
- Honey, meat, wine, brandies (Schnaps), liqueurs, beeswax candles, and oils from the region
